Nelson Bay is situated in Port Stephens. The natural setting of Port Stephens offers an endless range of attractions and activities. Whether you are after thrills, want to enjoy yourself at your own pace, or doing nothing at all, Port Stephens is the place to visit.
This Blue Water Paradise is famous for dolphin-watching. Approximately 160 bottle-nose dolphins live year round in these pristine waters. Cruise boats leave several times each and every day of the year.
From May to November whale watching is an experience to remember. Cruise with Imagine or Moonshadow to witness the migration of more than 3000 humpbacks annually.
What else ? 4 Wheel driving tours in the sand-dunes, kayaking, scuba diving and snorkeling, horse-riding, cycling, bushwalking, golf and lots more!
There is so much to do that you really need a week here ! However if you have just a day or two consider these possibilities:
Take a one and a half hour cruise, and see the settled areas of the harbour from the water. Most boats have a boom-net and you are bound to see Dolphins.
Whale-watching in season May-November.
Drive to the end of Shoal Bay Road and climb to the top of Mt Tomaree for spectacular views and photo opportunities.
Drive to the Inner Light House. Inspect the restored light keeper's cottage, the Coastal Patrol Station, visit the souvenir shop and tearooms.
Hire a bicycle from Shoal Bay Bike Hire. They will deliver to Nelson Bay B & B or to the ferry if you plan to cycle at Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest.
Take the noon ferry to Tea Gardens. Lunch or cycle. You'll be back by 3:30 PM.
Sand-dune experience. Sand-boarding for an hour or explore at length with the Bushmobile.
Drive to Fingal Bay and picnic or BBQ in Barry Park. Get goodies from the deli in Cascade Walk.
