Property Description

ALPENHORN is a small and private property with a single bedroom, ground floor unit, and 6 two bedroom/two storey units. All units have a full self catering kitchen.

Set in pleasant and relaxing gardens, Alpenhorn enjoys spectacular mountain and valley views and is less than two kilometers from the picturesque township of Mt Beauty.

Please note that not all units have mountains views, some units look onto a garden area.

All units have been recently refurbished with new kitchens and bathrooms.

In Winter the units are centrally heated and there is a drying cupboard for skier's equipment and clothing.

For out of winter visitors, Alpenhorn has an in-ground pool and a BBQ set in relaxing gardens.

There is also a guest's laundry with washing machine and dryer.

Whether your visit to our region is for relaxation or exhilaration we are here to ensure your stay is enjoyable!

Each unit has a network connection which enables access to Broadband (4Mb/256k) Internet.

Computer and fax facilities are available in the Office.

There is ample parking available, at no cost, for guests' cars in the Alpenhorn Car park.

Check in time is from 4:00pm.

If there is no-one in the room the night before it may be possible to have the room earlier - inquire when booking.

Alpenhorn is "children friendly" with stair barriers in all units and high chairs and cots available at no extra charge.

Children (from infants up to when they start work) are charged at $10 extra per child per night.

In Winter Falls Creek is an easy 40 minute drive from Alpenhorn for guests interested in Snow Sports at Australia's leading Ski Resort.

In the non-winter months there is great mountain biking to be had on the tracks at Big Hill Mountain Bike Park.

The Kiewa River, and associated pondages and dams, offers great challenges to those interested in trout fishing. These are also great venues for picnics and BBQs.

There is exceptional bush walking to be experienced in the Alpine National Park and adjoing State Forrests. There are some very interesting walks to be had on the Bogong High Plains where walkers can experience the History oh the Cattlean's huts as well as the unique Alpine Flora and Fauna.

The Mount Beauty 18 hole Golf Course is spread over a hillside overlooking the township and the Kiewa Valley. The course is physically demanding but players are rewrded by excellent views.

The hills above the Kiewa Valley offer Para/Hang-glider pilots some exceptional flying opportunities. Mount Emu, visible from the balconies at Alpenhorn, attracts hang-glider pilots from around the world in January each year.

For those not quite so adventurous, but still excited by the prospect of "soaring with the eagles" the local Gliding Club offers trial Instructional Flights from the Mount Beauty Airstrip.

The Kiewa Valley is fortunate to have six wineries offering a great selection of Cool Climate Wines. Most of these also offer daytime meals to accompany your wine tasting experience.

There are also some exceptional eateries in the Kiewa Valley, ranging from award winning Restaurants to great value meals from the two hotels and the Mount Beauty Country Club.

DRIVING FROM MELBOURNE - After leaving the Hume Highway, approximately 10 kms past the dueling McDonald Restaurants at Glenrowan, travel along the Great Alpine Road (B500) until you reach Myrtleford. You will need to join the Kiewa Valley Highway by either

1) Turning off 5 kms past Myrtleford - Happy Valley turnoff

or

2) Turning off 5 kms past Bright - Tawonga Gap turnoff

In either case turn right on to the Kiewa Valley highway when you reach the "T" intersection.

DRIVING FROM SYDNEY - If traveling from NSW we are situated 1 hour south east of Albury/Wodonga along the Kiewa Valley Highway.

As you travel on the Albury/Wodonga by-pass take the Tallangatta turnoff and then follow the signs to Mount Beauty/Snow Fields. Alpenhorn is situated in Tawonga South, just before Mount Beauty on the Kiewa Valley Highway.

Alpenhorn is a large, white, two storey, Chalet style building behind 6 large pine trees (and Alwyn (the 3 metre high Alpenhorn Man) - carved from the 7th pine tree) on the left as you drive towards Mount Beauty.

We are situated 150 metres past the 60 Km per hour sign on the left as you travel through Tawonga South towards Mount Beauty.

Access to our car park is via Heberles Rd - take the 1st left after passing Alpenhorn.

Alpenhorn is approximately 1.8kms north of the Mount Beauty Post Office
